Gold Mario amiibo offers special perk in Mario Party 10

Mario Party 10 launched just a few days ago, along with the gold Mario amiibo exclusive to Walmart in the United States. While many expected the gold Mario amiibo just to be a recolor of the Super Mario Collection Mario amiibo, it does have a unique identifier because it unlocks a gold Mario in Mario Party 10. Here’s what one redditor found when he used his gold Mario amiibo in the game:

Well I was lucky enough to score a golden mario at my local walmart this morning. I decided to try a little Mario Party 10 so I used my Gold mario and in the amiibo game type I noticed that there was a “set up” section which let you equip a token. I was surprised to see a “Gold” token already unlocked. It says it’s unlocked for unlocking all other gold tokens, but I was playing the game for the first time so I was a bit confused for a second, then I realized maybe it was for having gold mario?

So I reloaded it with normal Mario and no gold token on that amiibo unlocked. So it must be because of the golden Mario. I linked an album below which shows what happens when you use the token in game. :)! (Sorry for the quality my phone camera is on the fritz so I had to use my tablet).

Now that we know the gold Mario amiibo actually appears in Mario Party 10, one has to wonder if there are any other games that will recognize the gold amiibo as a separate entity from the the regular Super Mario collection Mario.

If you’ve been able to get your hands on a gold Mario amiibo this week, be sure to try it out!
